Chapter 10

Morgan

It was hard to stay focused when she knew Emmett was only steps away from where she was working. It didn’t matter that she was swamped or that she told herself she didn’t need to go see him.

She wanted to see him.

Always.

It was ridiculous, really. She’d spent the whole night with him, waking up in his arms. She should be able to go hours without seeing him and yet, here she was contemplating going out to her work truck just so she could maybe see him for a few minutes.

If she were a guy, her friends would call her whipped.

Could women be whipped or was that strictly a term men used? Didn't really matter, the term fit her accurately. In a short amount of time, he’d become important to her. So important that she could barely go a few hours without him.

Something had to be wrong with her. This couldn't be normal.

“I see you’re daydreaming again.” Eden stood over her where she knelt on the ground. She was supposed to be wiring an outlet, only she hadn’t moved in several minutes. “The Beckmeyer brothers have that effect.”

Morgan sighed, standing. “I was just thinking about what I have to do next.”

“Sure you were.” Eden rolled her eyes. “My first few weeks with Barrett, I wore the same expression that’s on your face and I spent a lot of time daydreaming. Or half asleep from exhaustion because he kept me up all night.”

It was useless to try and deny it. “Emmett is full of stamina.”

Laughing, Eden said, “I know you usually bring lunch. Want to sit outside and eat? It’s too nice to be inside.”

Morgan looked at her watch. “Yeah, we have about an hour before the fire chief is coming to do a preliminary inspection.”

“Donovan swore to me that it’s no big deal, that they just want to see how we’ve done since the fire. While he’s not chief yet, Nina says he’s coming with the current chief.”

“Good to know.” She grabbed her bag, which contained the lunch Emmett had made her that morning, and they walked outside. She still was in awe that he’d gone to so much trouble.

“I don’t know how you have time to pack your lunch each day.” She held up a take-out box from the resort's restaurant. “I cheat and get the restaurant to make me something.”

“Actually, Emmett made this for me.”

Eden raised an eyebrow as they sat down at one of the many picnic tables. “Really? I’m definitely going to need more info.”

It had been a few years since she’d had friends with whom she swapped stories. Usually, it was just her and her sister, Ivy, and Ivy always had the better stories.

“I guess you could say we’re dating.”

“Duh, everyone in town knows that.”

“They do?” Not that they’d been hiding it, but it was still weird to think of everyone knowing her business.
